This is a role is for a colleague whose research interests and/or background include quantitative analysis of language data.

This is a continuing position in the New Zealand Institute of Language Brain and Behaviour at the University of Canterbury. Academic positions at the University of Canterbury generally involve 40% teaching, 40% research, 20% administration. We are looking for a candidate whose 40% teaching time will be spent providing statistical/computational support to NZILBB researchers, both individually, and by way of group workshops.

The successful candidate will have an independent research programme, compatible with research currently underway at NZILBB, and will play a key role in strengthening the research profile of the New Zealand Institute of Language, Brain and Behaviour. They will be expected to apply for research funding, and attract and supervise thesis students.

The successful applicant will have the following characteristics:
- A research programme in Linguistics, Psychology, Communication Disorders, Philosophy, Computer Science or an aligned field, which includes quantitative analysis of language data
- The ability to support researchers from a range of differing academic and cultural backgrounds in developing their statistical/computational expertise
- An appropriate research publication history, and/or plans for future research and publications consistent with appointment at Lecturer rank
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively in your area of research
- A PhD in Linguistics, Psychology, Communication Disorders, Philosophy, Computer Science or an aligned field
